The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position beginning in Fall 2024. Junior candidates who are emerging leaders will be considered for junior fellowships such as the Bill Cook Endowment and the David Zimmerman Endowment.
Topics of interest include the broad area of materials science and engineering. Electronic and photonic materials, materials for extreme environments, materials for healthcare and biomedical applications, additive manufacturing, soft matter, metamaterials, and multifunctional materials are particular areas of emphasis, although all contemporary topics in materials science and engineering are of interest. Successful candidates must hold an earned doctorate in an appropriately related field by the time their appointment begins. They are expected to establish a dynamic and internationally recognized research program and to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Furthermore, they must have demonstrated an ability to conduct outstanding independent research and show promise for excellent teaching, mentoring, and entrepreneurship. The department is home to 30 full-time faculty, ~90 doctoral students, ~150 master students, and ~1,000 undergraduate students. Information about the department is available at www.me.uh.edu .
