Position Summary
The Master of Science in Athletic Training Program at the University of the Incarnate Word invites full-time faculty candidates for Assistant Professor, Master of Science in Athletic Training Non-Tenure Track within the School of Physical Therapy. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Essential Functions
  • Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the respective program; develop curriculum content aligned with the Board of Certification examination content outline and through the lens of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education’s expectations.
  • Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi; teach as part of an integrated team.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
  • Prepare timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses.
  • Advise and mentor students/faculty scholarly projects; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
  • Perform regular scholarly research and publication; actively engage in a scholarly agenda.
  • Engage in service to the school, university, community, and profession.
  • Maintain contemporary teaching and clinical expertise.
  • Participate in faculty development workshops.
  • Develop and coordinate simulated learning experiences to enhance student preparedness for clinical care.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Provide service to the respective department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in an area of athletic training practice.
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and academic counseling skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of information and computer technology.
  • Demonstrated ability of a learner mindset and willingness to develop effective learning facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting the profession of athletic training.
  • Ability to work independently with confidence and to effectively coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
  • Proficiency in human relations, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and academic counseling.
  • Proficiency in working collaboratively and effectively in a team.
  • Proficiency in multitasking and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
  • Graduate of a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program.
  • Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
Required Work Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of clinical practice as an athletic trainer.
  • Previous experience teaching in higher education, as evidenced by peer and/or student teaching evaluations; contemporary instructional/ instructional design experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned Doctorate (PhD, EdD) in a field aligned with the domains of athletic training.
  • Teaching experience within a CAATE Athletic Training Education Program.
  • Clinical teaching experience.
  • Established research track aligned with the domains of athletic training.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • Athletic Training Board of Certification credential.
  • Eligible for State of Texas Athletic Training License.
