The Department of Legal Studies at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, seeks applicants with a JD, license to practice law, and experience in both teaching and practicing law for a tenure-track faculty position in Legal Studies. We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in litigation-related legal areas, such as evidence and legal interviewing, and with knowledge of competitive collegiate mock trial. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to broad liberal arts and interdisciplinary education. The candidate will develop a research agenda or engage in comparable professional service activities, preferably in one of the areas above.

Candidates should be able to teach and develop online and in-person legal courses across a range of undergraduate and graduate offerings, including Legal Writing and Research, Litigation, and Contracts, and develop courses in areas of interest to the faculty member.  Faculty typically contribute relevant courses to Hamline's general education as well as to its topics driven First Year Seminar program. We are also seeking candidates with excellent teaching skills to serve a diverse student body and to collaborate actively with students. Hamline faculty typically have a 6-course annual teaching load, with a course release in the first year for professional development and semester pre-tenure release pending successful third-year review.

Required Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • License to practice law (any state acceptable)
  • Experience working as a paralegal or supervising paralegals in a team environment
  • Teaching experience in a paralegal, legal studies, or law school setting
  • Familiarity and comfort with learning management systems, e.g., Canvas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching and/or developing online courses
  • Experience developing curriculum for undergraduate, paralegal, or law students
  • Legal practice experience in a litigation setting
  • Experience working with Mock Trial and/or Moot Court teams
