Summary of Duties:

The Kinesiology Program (located within the College of Education on the Pullman campus) is seeking applications for an assistant professor in a tenure track, 9-month appointment with possibility of summer employment. Applicants will be expected to successfully conduct research and teach coursework within their expertise area, as well as provide service and community engagement.

We are seeking candidates with a clear research agenda and strong commitment to a focused line of research. Preferred areas of scholarship include, but are not limited to, Motor Behavior in the areas of motor development, motor learning, or motor control. Candidates should be emerging scholars with demonstrated capacity to pursue their research agenda with preference given to those with post-doctoral research and/or grant experience. Additionally, candidates are sought who can demonstrate engagement in interdisciplinary work and foster scholarly connections among current faculty (current department expertise includes biomechanics, physiology, psychology, motor learning and control, research methodology and statistics) and across the university.

Finally, the Kinesiology program seeks candidates who can contribute to innovative teaching, and service activities integrating kinesiology into campus and community entities as appropriate. Additional teaching opportunities include undergraduate biomechanics and research methods. The College of Education seeks applicants with a demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds and ideologies in a global environment.


Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in kinesiology or related field by the date of hire. ABDs may apply.

  • Candidates must also demonstrate the potential to sustain a programmatic line of research (e.g., peer reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or acquisition of external funding).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with external funding and/or post-doctoral experience.

  • Strong candidates will show a commitment to high quality teaching within kinesiology, mentoring of students, and service to the program, college and profession.

  • We seek faculty members to join our team who can demonstrate the ability to conduct interdisciplinary research with units across campus (e.g., Neuroscience, Bioengineering, Extension, Prevention Science, Biology).

  • In addition, practical experiences that illustrate the integration of content expertise and application either within or outside of the education context are desirable.
