Position Overview
The Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Kansas invites applications for a faculty position at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level with potential start date in August 2022.
We invite applications for a faculty position as a tenure-track assistant professor with research interests in the area of Infectious Disease whose research aligns with the NIH mission. Broad disciplinary interests will be considered and include, but are not limited to, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, Chemical Biology, Genetics, Host-Microbe Interactions, Immunology, and/or Microbiology.

As part of the University’s commitment to advancing the biological sciences, this position in one of three new faculty positions available in the Department of Molecular Biosciences (https://molecularbiosciences.ku.edu/ ). Candidates will have access to resources associated with NIH supported Chemical Biology for Infectious Disease Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (https://cbid.cobre.ku.edu/ ).
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in relevant field and post-doctoral research experience. Applicants should demonstrate the potential to establish an independent, externally-funded research program, as evidenced by research products including preprints and publications, and a statement outlining research successes and future goals. As excellence in inclusive education and mentoring is a priority for our academic scientists, applicants should convey approaches and interests in these areas. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment
Job Description
40% RESEARCH
Maintain an active and productive research program that includes:
1) Obtaining external research funding,
2) Publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and
3) Presenting findings at professional conferences.
40% TEACHING/ADVISING
1) Educate undergraduate and graduate students in formal biology courses,
2) Participate in the academic advising of undergraduate and graduate students, and
3) Mentor students in research, including serving as a dissertation/thesis director and professional mentor for students.
20% SERVICE
1) Serve on committees at the Departmental, College, and/or University levels as the opportunities arise,
2) Participate in professional service, and
3) Participate in departmental meetings.
