Description of Work
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in the Fall of 2024.
The successful candidate will teach four (4) courses per year (2 per semester), including both undergraduate and graduate levels. Other duties include some thesis supervision, participation in faculty governance, and service on department and college committees. Areas of Specialization (AOS) include Philosophy of Mind, Epistemology, Philosophy of Cognitive Science, or Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence. The Area of Competence (AOC) is open. The department has teaching needs in philosophy of mind/psychology, epistemology, and logic.
Salary is competitive. Summer work may be available.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related area by position start date.
  • Research and teaching expertise in an AOS category.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exceptionally promising and accomplished research in an AOS category.
  • Strong potential for publications, as documented in the application materials, particularly the writing sample.
  • Teaching expertise in philosophy of mind/psychology.
  • Teaching expertise in epistemology.
  • Teaching competence in logic.
