The Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position for the 2023-24 academic year (starting August 2023). This position will involve teaching undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses, research, and service, and generally consist of teaching 5 courses per academic year. Areas of particular research interest include: nutritional epidemiology, behavior change, global nutrition, community/public health nutrition, nutrition and aging, maternal and child nutrition, food policy, and food systems and sustainability. Candidates research efforts will primarily focus on contributing to ongoing extramural research within the department, college, and university.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in Nutrition and Food Sciences, mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to active research.
Qualifications
Required:
1. Earned Doctorate in Nutrition or closely related area conferred by August 15, 2023.
2. Demonstrated graduate coursework in human nutrition.
3. Demonstrated teaching experience and responsibilities at the college or university level as either an instructor, lecturer, or teaching assistant.
4. Demonstrated ability to directly contribute to active departmental research efforts, including publications and grant submissions.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
6. Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
7. Demonstrated experience and commitment to working and promoting diverse and traditionally underrepresented groups.
Preferred:
1. Registered Dietitian.
2. MPH.
3. Independent teaching of an undergraduate or graduate nutrition course at a college of university.

There are 10 faculty members in the Department. The Department is housed within the College of Health Sciences, which is a member of the URI’s Academic Health Collaborative.
