The Department of Music of the University of Pittsburgh invites applications from candidates with exceptional ability for an Assistant Professor of Musicology to begin on September 1, 2024, pending budgetary approval. 

Title:                  Assistant Professor of Musicology

Qualifications:   Ph.D. in Musicology or related field by the position start date; evidence of scholarly excellence with potential for establishing an international reputation; commitment to cultivating excellence in teaching and advising; interest in working with colleagues in the University and the wider community.  

Duties:               Work with other faculty to oversee and develop long-term visions for the Musicology undergraduate and graduate programs; maintain an active research and publishing program; teach courses on topics related to musicology; develop an international scholarly profile and participate actively in the profession. Teaching load: 2:2.

We seek a colleague with expertise in global musicology of the Americas post-1800 whose research emphasizes Latin American music, broadly defined. Focuses on migration or diaspora, popular music media, Black music, or music histories "from below” are especially welcome, as are interests in transatlantic/transpacific relations, sound studies, or critical theory/philosophy. 

The ideal candidate will contribute to the intellectual vibrancy of the Department and University, work closely with other members of our faculty, and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Music offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in a liberal arts curriculum and the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees with concentrations in Composition and Theory, Ethnomusicology, Jazz Studies, and Musicology.
