Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit | The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is seeking applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership. |
Position Summary | The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations (ELC) offers Master’s, Ed.D., and Ph.D. degrees and several post-masters certificates at the intersecting areas of educational leadership and cultural studies. We offer on-campus programming as well as a range of online and hybrid options. We explore issues related to equity, social justice, democracy, and access in schools and throughout the public realm. We seek to understand the theories, policies, and practices that are enacted in schools, communities, and other educational and cultural contexts, and disrupt unjust practices. We are interested in attracting candidates who add to the diversity of the department in terms of race, gender, culture, perspective, academic specialty, and method of inquiry. The department seeks an individual with a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, research, community engagement, and doctoral advising/mentoring. The individual must be able to reflect and enhance the broad directions of the department in both educational leadership and cultural foundations. The successful candidate will demonstrate their understanding of an ability to advance the School of Education’s mission and vision (https://soe.uncg.edu/mission-and-vision/ ), the UNCG strategic plan (https://strategicplan.uncg.edu/ ), as well as the goals articulated in the UNC System’s strategic plan (www.northcarolina.edu/impact/strategic-plan ) and including teaching and scholarship that supports the diversity represented at UNC Greensboro and in our profession. |
Minimum Qualifications | Qualified candidates must possess a doctorate or be advanced to candidacy (i.e., “ABD”) and close to doctoral degree completion in Educational Leadership, Policy, or a closely related area. In addition, they must be able to contribute to, and teach in, our MSA and PMC programs in principal preparation. They must have knowledge of current issues and theoretical trends in the field of education related to equity, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and critical perspectives on education and schooling. |
Preferred Qualifications | Preferred qualifications include K-12 leadership experience; expertise and scholarship related to leadership theory and school improvement; ability to teach classes related to culture and cultural responsiveness; experience working in collaboration with schools, school districts, and other educational agencies; and capability and/or willingness to teach online. |
