Position Details:


Summary of Duties:

This position has both research and teaching responsibilities. The successful candidate will develop a community-engaged economics research program in health economics with a focus on Native American and indigenous populations. Teaching responsibilities include economics courses based on the candidate’s interest and the needs of the School of Economic Sciences (SES) and the applicant’s research funding. The successful applicant will engage with Native American and indigenous populations and other internal and external research colleagues to identify research priorities,conduct collaborative projects, and disseminate results by publishing in appropriate peer-reviewed journals. Other duties include securing extramural funds from state, regional and national grant sources; mentoring and advising graduate students; and participating as appropriate in committees, instruction, and other activities of SES and WSU.

Resources will be available to support the successful candidate. SES has established collaborations with several units across the university, especially the Allen School for Global Health and the Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH). IREACH hasinitiated and maintained many long-standing and invaluable research relationships with non-profit service entities, Native-serving clinical facilities, and communities.


Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D. in Economics or a related discipline at date of hire.

  • Demonstrated commitment to campus diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of strong training in economic theory and applicable quantitative methods.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Native American and Indigenous theories and knowledge systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at graduate and undergraduate levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality research papers that have the potential to be published in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals.

  • Established relationships and demonstrated work with Native American tribes, communities and peoples.
