Position Summary
The Department of Computer Information Systems invites full-time candidates for tenure-track Assistant Professor position within the School of Mathematics, Science, and Engineering beginning August 2024. Full-time faculty at UIW are expected to teach four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester. The Department of Engineering, Computing, and Cybersecurity at UIW offers a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with four tracks, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (CIS) and a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Systems (CSEC). In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standard of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship service, and professional activities.

Essential Functions
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Teach undergraduate courses in person related to Computer Science, Programming, Computer Information Systems, and Cybersecurity Systems.
  • Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditations are met.
  • Prepare timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Provide service to the respective department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair, and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Strong knowledge of computer science concepts (Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, Compilers, etc.);
    • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity (cybersecurity data science, network security, secure software development, and associated skills);
    • Strong skills in managing and optimizing advanced computing systems and servers is highly valued, reflecting an ability to integrate this knowledge into teaching and practical applications in Computer Information Systems;
    • Demonstrated teaching and administrative ability;
    • Strong interpersonal skills;
    • Ability to take initiative and thrive in a demanding and diverse environment inside and outside the university;
    • Ability to make industry contacts in the area to promote internships and capstone programs;
    • Collegial and open to new ideas for improving processes;
    • Willingness to learn and adapt to change;
    • Ability to strictly follow all applicable rules and regulations of NSA CAE-CD.

    Required Education
    Doctorate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Doctorate in closely related discipline with at least 18 graduate hours in Computer Information Systems.
    Required Work Experience
    • Teaching experience at the college or university level to include the following courses: Linux/Unix operating systems, Computer Programming Languages including Python, Java, Java Script, C#, and C++.
    • A sustained record of research and publication of scholarship.
    • Experience working collaboratively on a team.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in teaching laboratories and senior design;
    • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness, university leadership, a record of scholarship, and mainstream publications;
    • Two (2) years of recent experience in the industry and strong programming skills;
    • Certifications in cloud computing, computer systems, cybersecurity, forensics, and/or networking;
    • Experience with open-source computer security, open-source software/code security, penetration testing, forensics tools, and Linux
    • Experience in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
