The Department of Psychological Science at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s invites applications for a Assistant Professor position in Clinical Psychology beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas of Hispanic/Latinx mental health and clinical psychology: clinical neuropsychology, psychological assessment, social determinants of mental health/disparities, trauma, or diversity research. The department offers a PhD program in clinical psychology that uses a scientist-practitioner model, a MA program in clinical and experimental psychology, and Major in psychology. The department trains students at its Psychology Clinic, which offers both in-house clinical practicum training and research space for students and faculty.
The candidate will be a core faculty member in the clinical psychology Ph.D. program which is currently being reviewed for accreditation on contingency by the American Psychological Association. The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain an active program of research, seek extramural research funding, teach graduate level courses in the PhD program, mentor graduate students in the PhD program in clinical psychology, and serve as a clinical supervisor to students.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in psychology from an APA-accredited university. ABDs will be considered but applicant must have an earned doctorate in psychology by August 31, 2024. Applicants must present evidence of active research that includes publications in peer-reviewed journals; potential to effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; potential to supervise and mentor clinical and research activities of students; potential to maintain active programmatic research, and potential to obtain external grant funding.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a doctorate in Psychology or allied discipline from an APA-accredited university (or be ABD with the expectation of holding a doctorate before the position start date) and APA-accredited predoctoral internship, with preference for candidates with doctoral training in clinical or counseling psychology.
Preferred Qualifications
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in any of the following areas: clinical neuropsychology, psychological assessment, social determinants of mental health/disparities, trauma, or diversity research. Fluency in Spanish preferred.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
