The Department of Community Health Services and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time appointment (non-tenure) stream Assistant Professor (9-month appointment, September-May) to serve as a key member of the undergraduate Rehabilitation Science faculty.  This 9-month faculty position is at the Assistant Professor rank, according to qualifications.  The position can be at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank based on education and experience.   The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:  Research Methodology, Human Physiology, and Medical Terminology.

Responsibilities will include teaching in the undergraduate Rehabilitation Science (BS) program along with mentoring and evaluation of students in the program.  The successful candidate will be expected to participate in program meetings and collaborate with others within the department, School of Health and Rehabilitation Science, and the University at large.  The University of Pittsburgh is committed to eliminating barriers and obstacles created by institutional discrimination.  We encourage applicants to comment in their cover letter on how their teaching, scholarship, service, and outreach activities contribute to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Minimum requirements for this position include a doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DPT) in Rehabilitation Science or related area and at least 10 years experience teaching at the collegiate level.

Area of Focus: Pitt SHRS invites applications and nominations for a 9-month faculty position up to the Assistant Professor rank.  The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:  Research Methodology, Human Physiology, and Medical Terminology.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide didactic and laboratory instruction and clinical education during the 9-month calendar year (Fall, Spring, Summer) to support the educational mission of the programs’ undergraduate program in Rehabilitation Science.

  • Develop course content and skill-building activities for students in the Rehabilitation Science program.
  •  

  • Integrate simulation and clinical laboratory experiences into education and teaching.
  •  

  • Develop new core and elective courses to support the changing needs of the students and the industry.
  •  

  • Participate in departmental, school, university, and professional services.
  •  

    Qualification:  Minimum requirements for this position include a doctoral degree and at least 10 years of experience teaching at the collegiate level.  Also must show demonstrated expertise in community health, especially in the focus areas of  Research Methodology, Human Physiology, and Medical Terminology.  A doctoral degree is required for the rank of Assistant to Associate Professor.
    Starting Date:   1 Sept 2024

    Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with faculty and professionals in the community. Strong teaching skills with an ability to be an effective mentor to students.

    Experience-Teaching:  The candidate will demonstrate successful experience and/or a strong motivation for excellence in classroom, clinical, and simulation/laboratory instruction and teaching.

     

    Experience-Service: The candidate will demonstrate successful academic collaboration and/or a strong motivation for such collaboration and building and maintaining excellence in professional development and clinical education in a research-intensive department, school, and university.
