Assistant Professor - Epilepsy

Position Description:

The Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is actively seeking an Epileptologist to join our Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The faculty recruit will join an existing team of 5 adult epileptologists within the Adult Epilepsy Program, and a larger team of more than 75 dedicated clinician-educators, clinician-scientists, and researchers within the Department of Neurology who comprise the largest and most comprehensive Neurology group in the state of Wisconsin.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient comprehensive epilepsy care including EEG/Video-EEG/ICU-EEG/invasive-intracranial EEG interpretation, pre-surgical evaluations, and management of patients with neurostimulation devices for the treatment of epilepsy.
  • Contribute to the training of medical students and neurology residents, as well as fellowship trainees in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy.
  • Embrace the academic aspect of the position and develop expertise in areas of interest, whether clinical, teaching, research, or administration.

About the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program:

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin has adult and pediatric components located in adjacent hospital complexes with separate epilepsy monitoring units and well-established epilepsy surgery programs. Both programs are independently listed as NAEC Level IV Programs. Our program offers a comprehensive suite of diagnostic and treatment options for patients with epilepsy including inpatient Video-EEG monitoring, state-of-the-art MR imaging, PET-MRI, Magnetoencephalography (MEG), functional-MRI, invasive intracranial EEG studies (subdural and Stereo-EEG), resective epilepsy surgeries, and Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT), as well as neurostimulation therapies including Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS), Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), and Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS). The program serves a large region of eastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. The adult epilepsy program is currently staffed by 5 adult epileptologists, two epilepsy surgeons, and one nurse practitioner, and is supported by a program coordinator and a team of epilepsy nurses and electrodiagnostic technicians.

Position Requirements:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • ABPN certification or board eligibility in Neurology.
  • ABPN certification or board eligibility in Epilepsy and/or Clinical Neurophysiology.
  • Post-fellowship clinical or research experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality patient care.
  • Interest in academic opportunities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
