Assistant Professor - Environmental Social Sciences

The School of Earth, Environment, and Society (SEES) at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) invites applications for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Environmental Social Sciences beginning August 2024. Candidates will have a focus on climate, environmental resilience, or water with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and collaborative scholarship inside and outside of SEES.

The School of Earth, Environment, and Society (SEES) is located within the College of Arts and Sciences. The College strives to foster and sustain an engaging culture of discovery, creativity, teaching, learning, and collaboration, enriched by a diversity of experiences and perspectives. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, scholarly/creative work, and/or service, to our efforts to meet the challenge of achieving inclusive excellence in our academic community. The College takes a cohort-based approach to faculty success, providing resources and support within the Dean’s Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools, leadership teams in other colleges, and university-serving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. SEES offers both natural and social science courses and programs, including undergraduate degrees in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy and Analysis, Geology and Geography. The School also offers graduate programs in Geology and Applied Geospatial Sciences. By bridging the natural and social sciences, SEES prepares students for a variety of careers relevant to important societal issues, including water and energy resources, climate change and sustainability. - Teach introductory undergraduate courses and upper-level undergraduate and graduate level courses in their area(s) of expertise. Use of inclusive pedagogies and designing courses with a focus on student learning is desirable.
- Develop a productive, collaborative, externally funded research program at BGSU in the broad area of environmental social sciences
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate student research
- Participate in service at the department, college, university, professional and community level

• Doctoral degree in environmental studies or related fields (e.g. environment and sustainability, environmental policy, environmental science, or other disciplines connected to environmental social science) is required. ABDs will be considered but the requirements for the degree must be completed by August 2024.
• Demonstrated record of research in environmental social sciences linked to water, environmental resilience, or climate issues (i.e.., at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal, presentations at professional conferences)
• Teaching experience at the collegiate level (e.g., course instructor, teaching assistant, guest lecturer)

- Sample syllabus and assignments that illustrate inclusive pedagogy or student learning-focused course design. Syllabus and assignments may be from previous or proposed courses.
Unofficial transcripts of highest degree earned are required for candidates invited for in-person interviews.
Finalist will be required to submit official transcripts.
BGSU policy requires finalist to authorize and pass a background check prior to receiving an offer of employment.
