Job Description

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Environmental Science to begin as early as spring 2025. The position is in the area of coastal environmental science including assessment, management, and sustainability.  Possible research areas include but are not limited: to coastal natural and human ecosystems and communities in the face of climate change, socioeconomic impacts, and disaster planning. Expertise in other environmental-science related areas is welcomed.  Ability to teach environmental regulations is required.

This position will ideally be complementary to our current faculty research activities with existing strengths in ocean and coastal processes, ocean-atmosphere-land exchange processes, chemical cycling, hydrogeology, remote sensing, coastal pollution, ecosystem modeling, and integration of natural science with human dimensions. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, and teach courses consistent with their individual expertise. This position will further expand and support our undergraduate and graduate programs in Environmental Science (B.S. and M.S.).  Opportunities also exist to support graduate programs in Coastal Marine System Science (M.S. and Ph.D.), Chemistry (M.S.) and other graduate programs. Details about each of these programs can be found online at https://www.tamucc.edu/science/graduate-recruiting.php . We encourage applications from candidates who can develop research that makes the most of our modern research laboratories and equipment, including those associated with our Isotope Core Laboratory, Geophysics Facility, Aquatic Biogeochemistry Lab and High-Performance Computing Cluster. A scientific diving program, the Laguna Madre Field Station and a fleet of small boats are available to conduct field work in bays and the nearshore Gulf of Mexico.

Ample opportunities exist for collaboration with researchers from the Department of Physical and Environmental Science and the Department of Life Sciences, and other colleges within the university, as well as from the University’s strong portfolio of marine-oriented research institutions such as the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies (https://www.harte.org/ ), Center for Water Supply Studies (https://www.tamucc.edu/science/research/cwss/index.php ), Center for Coastal Studies (http://ccs.tamucc.edu ) and Conrad Blucher Institute (https://www.conradblucherinstitute.org/ ). Our unique location provides many opportunities for coastal and marine-related research including proximity to the Port of Corpus Christi and related industrial facilities, and to extensive bays and estuaries along the Gulf of Mexico, including the hypersaline Laguna Madre and barrier island habitats of the Padre Island National Seashore, and many of our faculty additionally conduct research worldwide in various systems.
