SUMMARY:

The Assistant Professor of English is responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in person and online; conducting scholarly research; and providing service to the department, the college, and the university.

The Department of Literature and Languages, Texas A&M University-Commerce, is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of English with specialization in American literatures since 1900 with a preferred secondary area of multiethnic literatures of the United States. This tenure-track appointment will begin in the Fall 2024 semester. The selected candidate will teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including possible instructional assignment in lower-level courses. Candidates should have experience teaching a range of American and other literature courses.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches graduate- and undergraduate-level courses;
  • Designs, implements, and publishes research;
  • Advises students;
  • Recruits for the program;
  • Prepares syllabi; 
  • Updates course materials; 
  • Develops  curriculum; 
  • Delivers instruction both online and on any of the university campuses. Instructional duties may include teaching during the day and/or evening.
  • Works  collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs;
  • Provides service to the department, college, university; and
  • Maintains knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: PhD in English with a concentration in American literatures since 1900 or a closely-related field.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Demonstrate experience of successful teaching.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.
