Job Summary

The School of Mathematics & Engineering is seeking an Assistant Professor of Engineering/ Engineering Technology (2 positions available) to begin Fall 2024.


Minimum Qualifications

Engineering
Bachelor's degree in an ABET accredited engineering discipline, Master's degree in Engineering (preferred Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Environmental, or similar), or BS plus 18 graduate hours in an engineering program (preferred same as above).
Philosophy compatible with that of a comprehensive urban community college.
Engineering Technology
Bachelor degree in Engineering Technology; Or an Associate degree in Engineering Technology and 5 years experience as an Engineering Technologist with related certifications; Or professional licensure and/ or Certifications with 15 years experience in Engineering Technology.
Philosophy compatible with that of a comprehensive urban community college. Engineering Technology Industry experience or a combination of certifications, licensure, and industry experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
The ideal candidate for this hybrid position should demonstrate expertise and experience in teaching at least two of the following four areas: Engineering Science, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Quality Control, and Drafting. 

  • Teaching Experience:
    • Proven success in navigating various teaching modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and fully asynchronous online formats.
    • Experience in teaching at the post-secondary level with a focus on the specified subject areas.
  • Expertise in the Subject Matter:
    • In-depth knowledge and expertise in the subjects being taught, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
    • Practical experience in the application of Engineering Science, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Quality Control, and Drafting concepts in real-world scenarios.
  • Pedagogical Innovation:
    • Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching methods, with a focus on experiential learning and the integration of real-world examples.
    • Ability to incorporate cutting-edge educational technologies and tools to enhance the learning experience.
  • Engagement and Communication Skills:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students in diverse learning environments.
    • Ability to foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages active participation and collaboration.
  • Adaptability:
    • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate different teaching modalities and adjust instructional strategies based on the needs of the students and the format of the course.
  • Industry Experience:
    • Practical industry experience in one or more of the specified areas, demonstrating a connection between academic knowledge and real-world applications.
  • Commitment to Continuous Improvement:
    • A commitment to staying current with industry trends, educational best practices, and advancements in the field, with a willingness to continuously improve teaching methodologies.
  • Innovation in Classroom Pedagogy:
    • A track record of integrating innovative teaching practices, such as project-based learning, case studies, and collaborative activities, to enhance the educational experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Engineering
    Prefer teaching experience at the community college or university level. Ph.D. preferred.
    Engineering Technology
    Terminal degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering-related field; or Master's degree in Engineering Technology or related Engineering field or 18 graduate-level hours in Engineering Technology or Engineering-related field. Prefer teaching experience at the community college or university level.
