Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Teaching, Learning and Educational Leadership at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic year 2024-2025.
Applicants should hold an earned PhD or EdD in Curriculum and Instruction or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2024.
The position services Elementary Education (BS) and Masters of Arts in Teaching majors. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses within their area of expertise and provide necessary supports to the department in the areas of curriculum and instructional design, assessment, and course implementation. Candidates must also collaborate with schools and communities within EKU’s service region and beyond.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a 4/4 annual teaching load, develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, conduct academic advising, and participate in service to the department, university, and community. In addition, membership and participation in state, regional, national, or international communication organizations is recommended.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned PhD or EdD in Curriculum and Instruction or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

Experience:

• Candidate must have a minimum of three years teaching experience in an elementary, middle, or secondary public-school classroom.

Licensure & Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Elementary Math Education.
• Higher education teaching experience, as well as online teaching experience, is preferred.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a 4/4 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students
  • Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one’s curricular area
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda
  • Keep up to date with one’s field and curricular areas by reading and reviewing current scholarly or creative works and by attending conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, and faculty development activities
  • Advise students, fulfill program, departmental, college, and university committee assignments
  • Oversee student clinical experiences
  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community
  • Demonstrate respect for and support EKU’s diverse campus community and student population
