The Department of Mathematics (https://math.ecu.edu ) is part of the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences. We offer BA, BS, and MA degrees in mathematics. Our MA program has a strong track record of preparing students for doctoral studies. At the undergraduate level, in addition to serving our majors, we offer coursework taken by all students at ECU to complete their general education requirements as well as supporting the more advanced mathematical education of students in other STEM fields. The department is a research-active community in which faculty actively seek extramural funding with frequent success and publish high quality articles in top-tier journals across mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, and actuarial science. These include such journals as Advances in Mathematics, American Journal of Mathematics, Annals of Mathematics, Crelle’s Journal, Inventiones Mathematicae, Journal of the European Mathematical Society, Journal of Neuroscience, and Memoirs of the AMS. The department also has collaborations with a number of other disciplines across campus in research and graduate studies, including but not limited to Math Education, Biology, Physics, Economics, Engineering, and Medicine.

Job Duties
The Department of Mathematics at East Carolina University (https://math.ecu.edu/ ) seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics (pure or applied), beginning August 2024 (9-month appointment, contingent upon funding).
Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses effectively.
  • Conduct high-quality research and seek external funding.
  • Contribute to program promotion and development.
  • Service to the department, university, community, and profession is expected.
Minimum Education/Experience
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Mathematics or a closely related field, or foreign equivalent; post-doctoral experience or evidence of an active research program.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None.
