Systems Engineering (SE) is the newest department of the Walter Scott College of Engineering and is the largest doctoral program at CSU. SE provides globally-accessible, systems-thinking knowledge and skills, education and team-based research programs to build the Department’s collaboration with and recognition within the broader discipline. The SE program develops systems engineers who deliver successful systems and innovative solutions for the world’s most difficult and complex problems.
The Systems Engineering Department is unique in offering a set of nonresident research-intensive masters and doctoral degree programs that are largely populated with students who are simultaneously working full time in industry. All courses (and all degrees) are offered face-to-face and by distance delivery, synchronously and asynchronously, and may include lecture, seminar, and other distance education formats. Position Summary
The Department of Systems Engineering seeks to hire a non-tenure track Assistant Professor. This position will work mainly at the CSU Spur campus at the National Western Center in north Denver, as well as remotely. This position will serve those companies most engaged with the SE program in the Denver Metropolitan area.
This search seeks candidates with a systems-centric teaching record in the fields of systems engineering, design and optimization, hardware/software project management, system design lifecycle, requirements, risk analysis, and other aspect of systems engineering and systems engineering science. This position seeks to leverage Denver-based partnership opportunities with Colorado’s local aerospace industry, NREL, Denver-based engineering consulting firms, the CSU Spur initiatives, and Colorado’s Denver-based federal workforce. This position seeks to engage these stakeholders in CSU’s recruitment, education, research, and outreach missions, including engaging in K-12 education activities and SPUR community centric activities.
This faculty position can be a full-time or part time, nine-month appointment. This position will teach courses and advise students in the Systems Engineering Department and will develop advanced courses in their areas of expertise and will greatly contribute to Systems Engineering’s commitment to the undergraduate teaching missions of the university and to provide service to the College of Engineering, CSU, and the broader community.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Applicants must hold a master’s degree or doctoral degree in a scientific discipline. Teaching topics should focus on systems Engineering, energy systems, model-based systems engineering, design optimization, controls, and analytics, project/program Management or in a field related to subjects taught by the Systems Engineering Department.
  • Systems-centric teaching experience in an academic, government, or corporate environment
  • Curriculum development and teaching with Canvas based (or similar system) distance and conventional educational courses in the Systems Engineering domain.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to diversity and inclusion as demonstrated by involvement in teaching, research, creative activity, service to the profession, and/or inclusion activities.
  • The successful candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Systems Engineering may provide visa sponsorship for this position for the best candidate.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Teaching or Engineering experience beyond doctoral training in an academic, government, or industrial setting
  • Experience in Systems Engineering, Model-based Systems Engineering, Design optimization, Controls, Analytics, Project Management, Program Management, or a closely related field within the last five years.
  • Experience in aerospace/space or manufacturing industry
