Department Summary
The Counseling Psychology Program at UNT trains health service psychologists within a scientist-practitioner model. In addition to completing the core Counseling Psychology courses, our students are admitted into one of the three elective clusters (Child & Adolescent Therapy, Minority Wellness, and Sport Psychology) that provide them with training opportunities to develop knowledge and competencies in particular areas. The program currently has 8 core faculty members with a wide range of research and professional expertise. The UNT Department of Psychology has grown by nearly 50% in the last 2 years, now with more than 30 faculty members. We have more than 3000 undergraduate majors. There are three doctoral programs in the department: Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology (also APA-accredited), and Behavioral Science. Across the three programs, we have approximately 110 graduate students. The department has established formal and informal mentoring networks and processes by which every faculty member can succeed, feel supported, and find community.  Both undergraduate and graduate students participate on faculty research teams.

Position Summary
The Department of Psychology at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position within our APA-accredited Counseling Psychology Program, beginning Fall 2024. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong research program and a record of applying for or receiving extramural funding. The specific areas of research for this faculty position are open.
However, preference will be given to candidates with research complementing one of the program’s three elective clusters, especially Child and Adolescent Therapy and/or Sport Psychology cluster as well as those with experiences in community-based participatory research, violence prevention, at-risk youth or family, psychosocial determinants of health and psychological wellbeing, and/or translational research. Faculty responsibilities include developing and maintaining an active research program, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, seeking research grants, advising and mentoring doctoral students, and sharing service duties. Successful applicants are also expected to demonstrate strong interests in mentoring students’ professional development and supervising students’ clinical work since mentoring and supervision are valued components of program faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
-Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology or related field from an APA-accredited program at the time of employment.
-A record of research and scholarly productivity.
-Licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in the State of Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
·Record of applying for and/or receiving competitive extramural funding from private or governmental sources.
-Research program and expertise that would align with one of the program’s three clusters, especially Child & Adolescent Therapy or Sport Psychology clusters.
-Experiences and expertise in community-based participatory research, violence prevention, at-risk youth or family, psychosocial determinants of health and psychological wellbeing, and/or translational research.
-For candidates interested in SP, those with eligibility to be a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and interest in teaching graduate-level sport psychology practicum with focuses on both sport performance and athlete mental health.
-Record of teaching/mentoring undergraduate or graduate students.
