Summary

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology at the University of Houston – Downtown (UHD) invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science.  We are looking for outstanding candidates with expertise in area of artificial intelligence. The appointment will start in August 2022. Candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish an externally funded research program, and provide service and leadership to the campus and the scientific community.  To be considered, candidates must describe their experience and future plans to promote equity and inclusion in teaching, mentoring, and research.  Financial and in-kind resources will be made available to faculty who promote equity and inclusion at UHD, and work will be recognized as important university service during the faculty promotion process.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to teaching excellence
  • Demonstrates a commitment to research/scholarship excellence
  • Demonstrates a commitment to service excellence
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion 
  • Prepares and teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses using different modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online) 
  • Advises and mentors students
  • Plays an active role in facilitating job opportunities for students by establishing and maintaining industry contacts 
  • Participates in professional activities, including meetings, workshops, and other relevant activities including establishing appropriate relationships with industry 
  • Demonstrates a commitment to program review, assessment, and accreditation activities 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the program and department

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications: PhD. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field at the time of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven record of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Proven teaching record at the university level
  • Successful grant writing
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Industry experience
  • Experience or interest in developing and teaching hybrid and online courses
  • Experience in program review and accreditation such as SACSCOC and ABET
