Description of Work Unit
The Department of Psychology is in CSU’s College of Natural Sciences along with seven other departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. The Department serves approximately 1000 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students, with approximately 30 full-time faculty members distributed across five doctoral programs: (1) Applied Social and Health Psychology, (2) Cognitive Neuroscience, (3) Cognitive Psychology, (4) Counseling Psychology, and (5) Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The Department also houses the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research, a University-designated program of research and scholarly excellence that concentrates on social problems that affect rural areas; and the Colorado Injury Control Research Center dedicated to reducing the occurrence and severity of injuries in rural areas of the Rocky Mountain region, particularly among underserved populations.
The Department is primarily housed in the Behavioral Sciences Building, a building that was completed in 2010 and was designed to meet LEED Gold Certification standards for environmental quality, innovative design, sustainability, and efficiency. The Behavioral Sciences Building includes office space for all full-time faculty and graduate students, meeting and seminar rooms, state-of-the-art classrooms, numerous lounge and study areas, and a wi-fi café. Also included are faculty research laboratories in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and sensation and perception that have been designed to specification. An adjacent building includes additional research space, computer facilities, an imaging center housing EEG and NIRS imaging labs, and undergraduate instructional laboratories. A 3T Siemens MAGNETOM Skyra MRI is also available on the CSU campus. In total, the Department controls over 100,000 square feet of research, teaching, and office space. Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging at CSU
Although the successful candidate will have a primary appointment in the Department of Psychology, the position has a required affiliation with the Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging, working in the CHSCHA affiliated, Department of Psychology Aging Clinic of the Rockies (ACoR). The successful candidate will be expected to perform clinical evaluations of cognitive functioning in aging community members through ACoR. This clinical expectation will count as a service obligation for the faculty member in the Department of Psychology. For candidates who are not licensed, supervised clinical hours counting towards licensure will be arranged through CHSCHA/ACoR and/or other clinical operations of the CSU campus. The CHSCHA and its clinics are catalysts for interdisciplinary research and evidence-based outreach and education about healthy aging. As a community-engaged center, the CHSCHA aims to be a premier local, regional, and nationally-recognized resource for discovery and application of research on biological, cognitive, psychological, social, and behavioral factors that lead to healthy and successful aging. Position Summary
The Department of Psychology at Colorado State University and the Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging (CHSCHA) at Colorado State University invite applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Psychology and CHSCHA. This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2023. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research. We welcome candidates with a wide range of research expertise in human neuropsychology research, but a research focus on in aging among older adult populations and/or dementia and related disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s Disease Dementia, Vascular Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease Dementia, Lewy Body Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, mild cognitive impairment, etc.). Candidates who are licensed, or who are on track to become licensed, and having training in clinical neuropsychology are preferred. Additionally, candidates should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate-level coursework in neuropsychology, biological psychology, and specialty courses related to their area of research interest. They will also be expected to participate in the interdisciplinary CHSCHA at CSU.
Post-doctoral research experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a research focus in aging, age-related changes in cognitive abilities, strategies/interventions related to resilience in cognitive aging, and/or dementia. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate expertise in neuropsychological assessment and/or intervention techniques and will have completed an internship in clinical neuropsychology. If not already licensed, the candidate should show evidence that they are on course to become licensed within the next 3 years. Candidates with a clear and consistent record of publication focused on aging and/or dementia will be preferred over candidates whose publication records are primarily outside of aging.

Required Job Qualifications
The successful candidate is required to have a Ph.D. in Psychology or anticipate completing their Ph.D. by 06/30/2023 as well as have active research in aging among older adult populations and/or dementia and related disorders.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Preferred candidates will demonstrate:
  • Having completed an internship that included training in clinical neuropsychology;
  • Being licensed or on track to become licensed in psychology within the next 3 years;
  • Having a consistent record of publication focused on aging among older adult populations or dementia and related disorders;
  • Having experience in undergraduate and/or graduate instruction and mentoring;
  • Evidence of ability to obtain external research funding; and
  • Personal and professional commitment to diversity and inclusion as demonstrated by involvement in teaching, research, creative activity, service to the profession and/or diversity/inclusion activities.

  • Successful candidates will be expected to be able to teach core curricular classes within the Department of Psychology, including Neuropsychology and/or Biological Psychology. Curricular development of aging focused courses in the candidate’s expertise area will be encouraged.
