ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Center for Regenerative Medicine (CRM) is a new initiative of the USF Health Heart Institute which operates under the auspices of the Morsani College of Medicine at USF. Members of this new Center will have opportunities for collaboration with faculty from other USF colleges including Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and the Moffitt Comprehensive Cancer Center. The CRM and USF Health Heart Institute are located in the new state-of-the-art facility at 560 Channelside Drive in downtown Tampa. The building houses multiple floors of clinical and laboratory space, state-of-the-art small animal imaging facilities, and other outstanding core facilities including a vivarium fully outfitted for small animal husbandry and zebrafish. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Center for Regenerative Medicine (CRM), under the leadership of Dr. Da-Zhi Wang, is inviting excellent candidates for a position at a rank of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Collaborative, non-tenured). We are especially interested in investigators who study the role of diet on cardiovascular biology and medicine but outstanding candidates in other areas will also be considered. Qualified candidates are expected to have already established, or have the potential to establish, a nationally recognized, competitively funded research program. In addition, the candidate will be expected to work closely with Dr. Wang on his research initiatives. Successful candidates will be offered institutional salary support commensurate with experience. The home department will be Internal Medicine or other relevant department at USF.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • TEACHING DUTIES: Provide bench level instruction for technicians, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and other trainees in the lab
  • RESEARCH DUTIES: Perform basic and translational research related to heart disease. Assist CRM director with preparation of manuscript and grants
  • ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: Serve in governance, service, and community outreach tasks upon consultation with CRM director


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.

PREFERRED:

  • Self-motivated independent researcher with experience in the study of obesity/metabolism and skeletal muscle biology, preferably with experience in examining the roles of microRNAs in skeletal muscle disease and obesity.
  • The ideal candidate will have a solid publication record and evidence of excellent skills in molecular biology, biochemistry, and physiology.
  • Substantial experience (5 years or more) performing basic research using mouse and cell culture models is preferred.
