Assistant Professor/Clinical

The assistant professor/clinical position will provide the department with full-time teaching and clinical coordination services. Under the direction of the department chairperson and the Clinical Education Director, the assistant professor/clinical position will be responsible for providing didactic teaching and clinical instructions, as well as assisting the Clinical Education Director in all aspects of the clinical education component of the Speech-Language Pathology program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An Ed.D., Ph.D., or SLPD in speech-language pathology.
  • Five or more years of full-time experience in speech-language pathology.
  • Experience as a clinical SLP supervisor.
  • Teaching experience at the university level.
  • Current ASHA-CCC and SLP Texas licensure required.

Desirable qualifications

  • Clinical experience in adult, pediatric, or both settings.
  • Leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

·         Clinical faculty member’s roles and responsibilities will be determined by Department Chair in coordination with Clinical Education Director, in concert with the department, school, and university’s mission and vision.

·         Duties and workload will be determined individually for the faculty member but will constitute the following:  

o    Teach graduate courses in areas of professional expertise.

o    Assist the Director of Clinical Education in developing, coordinating, maintaining, and continuously evaluating the clinical education program.

o    Assist the Director of Clinical Education in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with clinical partners regionally and nationally to ensure students have appropriate and varied practicum rotations.

o    Provide direct supervision of students in clinical practicum when needed.

o    Evaluate and mentor clinical supervisors to ensure consistent and appropriate instruction and evaluation of students.

o    Conduct clinical program assessment and ensure program adherence to accreditation standards.

o    Assist the department in academic, administrative, and recruitment activities.

o    Other academic and clinical duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
