Position Summary:

The Department of Biology within the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science (COS) at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in Climate Change Ecology.

Research/Scholarship Responsibilities – The candidate will conduct research on the effects of climate change on population, community, or landscape ecology, microbial ecology, or eco-evolutionary dynamics. Candidates applying contemporary quantitative techniques and modeling of observational or experimental data are preferred. Preferred applicants will also complement programmatic strengths in marine, coastal, freshwater, or wetland ecology and can take advantage of research opportunities in local ecosystems.

The candidate should have a strong record of research accomplishments, demonstrated potential for extramural funding, and a commitment to excellence in education. FAU possesses a culture that fosters internal collaboration and innovation as well as partnerships with local, national, and international agencies, and thus candidates must display strong collaborative potential and the ability to conduct transformative externally funded research within their area of specialization.

Teaching Responsibilities Candidates will be expected to teach courses in Ecology and Climate Change Biology, as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses within the applicant’s area of expertise. Supervision of undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students is also expected. The candidate should show clear promise of excellent instructional capacity. They should be able to demonstrate their ability to understand cultural and learning differences among students and be able to foster and create educational opportunities where all students can thrive.

Service Responsibilities – Candidates are expected to serve on Departmental, College and University committees, and provide professional service to external entities related to their field of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology or other closely related field at the time of hire is required. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
