Position Summary:

The Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatics Engineering (http://www.cege.fau.edu ) at Florida Atlantic University welcomes applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in environmental or transportation engineering. The candidate is expected to demonstrate strengths in research and teaching in one or more of the following areas: health and environmental research, subsurface geo-environmental engineering, transport modeling, remediation, transportation operations and management, artificial intelligent, and travel behavior and demand modeling, and sustainability/resilience. The Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatics Engineering (CEGE) hosts 3 ABET accredited undergraduate programs, a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Transportation and Environmental Engineering with about 600 undergraduate and 65 graduate students. The faculty is highly interdisciplinary and conducts research primarily in the broad thematic areas of Urban Mobility , Infrastructure, and Sustainability/resilience . The Department hosts various centers including the Center for Water Resiliency and Risk Reduction (cwr3.fau.edu) and the Freight Mobility Research Institute (fmri.fau.edu), a TIER 1 University Transportation center sponsored by the US Department of Transportation.

The FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science is in the top three fastest progressing engineering colleges in the nation (US News and World Report Rankings 2020-2022) and is internationally recognized for cutting edge research and education in the areas of computer science, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, computer engineering, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering and biorobotics, civil, environmental and geomatics engineering, mechanical engineering, and ocean engineering. Research conducted by the faculty and their teams expose students to technology innovations that push the current state-of-the art of the disciplines. The College research efforts are supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Transportation (DOT), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Department of Education (DOEd), the State of Florida, and industry. The College also utilizes additional institutional research resources through fellow appointments of its faculty in four University Institutes of research excellence/pillars, namely, the Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE), the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI), the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute (I-BRAIN), and the Institute for Human Health and Disease Intervention (I-HEALTH). The FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science offers degrees with a modern twist that bear specializations in areas of national priority such as AI, cybersecurity, internet-of-things, transportation and supply chain management, and data science. Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a doctorate degree in Civil Engineering or related field and are expected to demonstrate a strong research record commensurate to their rank. Successful applicants are expected to develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program and show a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. Demonstrate skill in understanding of cultural differences.
