General Description

The Dana Center for Preventive Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in biostatistics. The Dana Center, founded by Alfred Sommer, M.D., M.H.S. , is a leader in global and domestic research on blindness prevention and the only World Health Organization collaborating center in the United States. Our center guides research-based programmatic activities and educates future leaders to alleviate unnecessary blindness worldwide. Faculty includes ophthalmologists, epidemiologists, statisticians, programmers, project coordinators and administrative personnel. Together, the Center's mission is to prevent avoidable visual disability and blindness around the globe by conducting valuable research, using sound public health policies and programs, and training the next generation of leaders in public health ophthalmology. In particular, the Dana Center houses the Wilmer Biostatistics Center (WBC) which is partly supported by a National Eye Institute funded P30 center grant awarded to the Wilmer Eye Institute. The WBC closely collaborates with Wilmer researchers and play a critical role in basic, clinical and public health vision and eye research with high quality and significance. 

Primary duties of the Biostatistician Assistant Professor include managing and providing statistical collaboration in the WBC. The WBC is composed of 3~4 biostatisticians and 2 administrative staff members. The Assistant Profession biostatistician will manage the WBC projects, guide research methods and conceptualization of collaborative studies and conduct analysis and manuscript writing. The active research environment at the Dana Center and the WBC also nurtures methodological research opportunities which the incumbent is encouraged to pursue if interested. Other duties of the position include serving as clinical trial biostatistician to strengthen the data management and analysis capacity of a coordinating center for clinical trials.


Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in biostatistics preferred.  Master's degree will be considered. 
  • Candidates with doctoral degree should have 2 years of academic research experience.  Candidates with master degree, should have at least 10 years of full-time research experience in an academic institution.
  • Collaborative experience in eye research as evidenced by publications in ophthalmological journals. 
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Stata, SAS, or R (proficiency with multiple statistical programs preferred).
  • A strong team player. Strong self-motivation
  • Good oral and writing communication skills.
