Description of Work | The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of biomedical engineering. The UNL College of Engineering is undergoing an exciting period of significant growth, with a major focus of the College’s teaching, research and outreach enterprise in the area of biomedical engineering. The successful candidate will add to a vibrant group of faculty within MME (https://engineering.unl.edu/mme ), the College of Engineering, and the University of Nebraska system, which includes the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). There are many opportunities for collaborations across the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and UNMC. Notably, UNL is the home of the NIH-funded Center for Integrated Biomolecular Communication (https://ncibc.unl.edu/ ), which will provide the candidate with mentoring and research funding opportunities. Other collaboration opportunities include the Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior; the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory; the Center for Advanced Surgical Technology; and the Center for Drug Delivery and Nanomedicine, as well as new faculty hired under this initiative across the College of Engineering. In addition to UNMC, local collaborative opportunities include Creighton University Medical Center and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering consists of approximately 32 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 700 undergraduate students, and 120 graduate students. In addition to biomedical engineering, research priority areas include energy, nanoengineering, and manufacturing. An outstanding infrastructure exists for conducting research, including central facilities housing state-of-the-art instrumentation within the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience, the Center for Biotechnology, and the Nebraska Nanoengineering Research Facility. The College is also undergoing an unprecedented expansion in facilities with two new buildings with an investment of more than $150M. As an EO/AA employer, the University of Nebraska considers qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, and/or political affiliation.
