    Summary

    The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) invites applicants for a tenure-track position in Biology with a focus on plant or fungal ecology at the assistant professor level with an anticipated starting date of August 15, 2022.  UHD is a teaching university and tenure-track faculty teach 21 contact hours over two long semesters. Teaching responsibilities for this position include first-year biology and upper-level biology courses based on expertise and the needs of the department. In addition to providing student-centered pedagogy in all courses, this position requires the establishment of a successful research program that actively engages undergraduate students. The faculty member is expected to pursue funding to support their research and to engage in service activities that support the mission of the department and UHD.

    Qualifications

     

    Required attributes:

    • Candidates must have received a doctorate in biological sciences or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution by the time of employment.

    Preferred skills, knowledge, and abilities:

    • Teaching and/or research expertise in plant or fungal ecology
    • Demonstrated active research agenda
    • Experience teaching undergraduate courses
    • Qualified to teach a range of undergraduate courses
