UC Clermont College provides student-centered undergraduate education in an open-access, regional college environment. Job Overview

An Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati is expected to primarily teach classes, while also providing service as well as conducting research and/or other professional activities. This position will support the University of Cincinnati’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all of our activities.  To this end, the Science & Health Department at UC Clermont College seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Biology at the level of Assistant Professor. The position will begin August 15, 2022, unless otherwise indicated.


Essential Functions

Tenure-track faculty responsibilities include the following:

  • Teaching twelve (12) credit-hours for each of two primary semesters (Fall and Spring), including lectures and labs during day, and possibly evenings as needed. Teaching is the primary appointment; 80% of your time at minimum will be spent on teaching and its related activities such as:
    • preparing supplemental materials to enhance student learning in lecture and lab,
    • conducting assessments and evaluating student work,
    • developing curriculum,
    • acting as an informal student adviser;
  • Coursework taught will focus on first and second year biology courses, including non-majors’ courses, but may include other courses taught in the Biology area of the department;
  • Scheduling a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and/or research;
  • Participating in service to the department, college, university, and community;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. in biology, or a closely related field (e.g., microbiology, zoology, ecology), and one (1) year college-level teaching experience as the primary instructor. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high academic standards while encouraging and supporting students with diverse backgrounds, interests, and aptitudes. All candidates must demonstrate/provide evidence of effective teaching and professional development and must have appropriate degrees awarded by the time of appointment. 


Additional Qualifications Considered

Experience in teaching a broad base of biology courses, proficiency in using innovative instructional technologies and techniques, and at least two (2) years teaching biology in an institution where students have varied interests, degrees of preparation, and aptitude.  Experience teaching lecture and lab in Microbiology is highly desirable.
