McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), non-tenure clinical track faculty position in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Resproductive Sciences at our UT Physicians Women’s Center – Sugar Land .  The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s mission to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health through research, teaching, clinical service, administrative activities, and other service.

 

UT Physicians Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to providing the highest quality women’s healthcare in a compassionate and supportive environment. We specialize in all areas of obstetrics and gynecology. We offer routine services for annual exams, contraception, health care screening and routine obstetrics. We have specialists in urogynecology, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and high-risk maternal fetal medicine. We can offer our patients innovative techniques with robotic and minimally invasive surgery.

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

 

The faculty in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences will conduct research, teaching, clinical service, administrative and other activities, i.e., provide direct patient care and supervision of medical students and residents in clinic and hospital settings.

 

  • Developing and sustaining an environment in the patient care units that support excellence and innovation in clinical practice and patient care through assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programs and standards that support positive patient care outcomes to include excellent risk adjusted outcomes.
  • Performing a variety of staff management functions including the interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling and terminating of assigned management, clinical, and support staff.
  • Facilitating, reviewing, and approving the budget for UTHealth and Surgery Services, including estimates of future personnel and equipment needs; ensuring that hospital resources are optimally utilized through participation in strategic planning and financial budgeting processes, and development of practices that achieve specific objectives and resolution of unfavorable performance variances; providing leadership and implementing strategies to provide cost effective quality care.
  • Providing coaching, mentoring, support and consultation to clinical managers, attending physicians, research personnel, colleagues, and clinical staff.
  • Serving as role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability and interpersonal skills
  • Delegating authority and accountability to clinical & nursing staff for clinical practice and patient care decisions that is consistent with professional standards, regulatory agencies and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Identifying patient and family needs of the populations served; recommends and/or developing new programs and services to meet those needs; assuring that age specific equipment, supplies and educational resources are available for assigned units/services
  • Collaborating with UTHealth and hospital administration and physicians to identify future opportunities, and define the direction of department services; developing, and implementing plans to achieve identified goals, including OR efficiency, productivity and patient through put targets across care continuum
  • Maintaining an ongoing departmental Quality Improvement Plan and process consistent with the organizational Quality Management Plan; developing and implementing unit specific standards, policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of care and services; continuously assesses and improves assigned departments' performance while enhancing service
  • Reviewing appropriate financial reports and making appropriate modifications in UTHealth and MHH to reduce costs associated with supplies, staffing, and service agreements and/or identifies sound alternatives for purchasing equipment and supplies
  • Participating in and/or chairs committees, work groups, and meetings at as appropriate
  • Assuring interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active, maintained and ongoing. Following up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled. Collaborating to maintain a focus on providing excellent clinical services
  • Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in fields of expertise; supporting and promoting education and research
  • Supervising a highly specialized clinical team of direct care providers and administrative staff.  

 

Qualifications:

 

The selected candidate for the position must have a Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License.  Required or Preferred board certification/eligibility depending on specialty.  Required or preferred minimum years of clinical experience or years post residency depending on specialty.
