JOB SUMMARY:

The Art and Art History Department, in the College of Arts and Science at Adelphi University, Garden City, NY invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art History. Review of candidates' files will begin on December 8, 2023 and applications will be accepted until January 31, 2024. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    The successful candidate will have the skills needed to teach a broad range of introductory survey and advanced art history courses at the undergraduate level.

2.    This position will play a key role in the curricular design and coordination of Adelphi University’s art history classes as they dovetail with our BFA Studio Art Program and the department’s contribution to the Museum Studies program, as well as provide service to the College of Arts and Sciences, as appropriate.  

 

QIUALIFICATIONS:

1.    Applicants should have a Ph.D. in art history with a focus on 20th and 21st century art and two or more years of teaching experience beyond the level of a teaching assistant.

2.    A demonstrable record of professional engagement in peer reviewed publications, panels and/or lectures is required.

3.    As Adelphi University prides itself on engaging the rich resources of New York City for its curriculum, the use of museums and galleries as teaching tools is desirable.

SALARY INFORMATION: 

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $78,000 - $80,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
