Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Agricultural Education and Studies at Iowa State University located in Ames, Iowa seeks applicants for a 9-month, tenure eligible faculty appointment, at the rank of assistant professor. This position focuses on agricultural communication. The position is 70% teaching, 25% research and 5% service. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching courses related to agricultural communication with an emphasis on writing. They are expected to develop a strong research program of national scope focused on one or more mediums of communication.

Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, both resident and online, and initiating a focused area of scholarship. Service to the department, college, university and profession is expected. The person selected will advise undergraduate students, mentor graduate students, and serve as Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) Advisor. Additionally, the successful applicant must have demonstrated the ability to work in a team-based, collaborative environment to solve problems, develop programs, and teach effectively.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD, awarded by the start date, in Agricultural Communication or closely related field. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented evidence of effective teaching and the incorporation of student learning management systems

  • Documented effective teaching of agricultural communication skills at the undergraduate level

  • Evidence of academic and student organization advisement

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use communication technologies such as those applied in digital media production.

  • Experience in an area of communication, such as media literacy, applications of communications and instructional technologies, or technical communications.

  • Experience conducting agricultural communication research as demonstrated by published (or in press) peer reviewed journal articles and/or conference paper presentations, abstracts, or posters.
