Job Description

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (PENS) at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track academic professional faculty position in Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professional Professor to begin fall 2022. The successful candidate will have expertise in medicinal carbohydrate chemistry, synthesis of pharmacologically bioactive molecules and glycoconjugates, natural product derivatization, and computational chemistry as it relates to pharmaceutical science and molecular docking. Applicants with experience teaching graduate level Advanced Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Computational Chemistry is sought. This is a 9-month academic appointment, and the possibility of an additional summer appointment contingent upon need and availability of funds.

The candidate is expected to be able to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels in support of the development of the Chemistry undergraduate BS and graduate MS programs. Successful applicants must have demonstrated credentials to teach one or more chemistry courses including, but not be limited to: introductory chemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, advanced organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, instrumental analysis, and other labs and courses as needed. The candidate will also be responsible for remapping and overseeing the organic chemistry laboratory curriculum and developing new course offerings in Medicinal and Computational Chemistry

The candidate is expected to have expertise in the operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation (UV-Vis, AA, FT-IR, GC, LC-MS, and NMR) and be the point of contact for the Chemistry Program’s instrument facility which includes managerial responsibilities for user training and maintenance. The candidate will also be expected to participate in relevant aspects of the department’s activities, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students when appropriate, and other duties as assigned.

The Chemistry Program is part of the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (PENS). It offers both undergraduate and graduate (MS) degrees in chemistry. PENS is also home to programs in Atmospheric Science (BS), Coastal and Marine System Science (MS, PhD), Environmental Science (BS, MS), Geology (BS), and Physics (BS).

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field

  • Expertise in Medicinal Carbohydrate Chemistry, Pharmaceutical/Natural Product Synthesis, and Computational Chemistry

  • Experience in teaching undergraduate or graduate level chemistry courses

  • Expertise in operation of analytical instrumentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching graduate level Advanced Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Computational Chemistry
