Job Summary:
The Office of the Executive Director for the Arts (Carolina Performing Arts) is responsible for planning and presenting a comprehensive performing arts program serving the UNC campus and beyond. Carolina Performing Arts strives to integrate the performing arts into the core academic and teaching mission of the University through its diverse engagement initiatives and champions the power of exceptional arts experiences to enrich, inspire, challenge and transform. CPA oversees all artistic programming, campus and community engagement, marketing and fundraising for its presented performances, and manages all operations of its venues including facility rentals, technical production, audience services, and ticketing. The Audio Department Head for Carolina Performing Arts (CPA) reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for coordinating and managing audio operations for events in Memorial Hall, CURRENT ArtSpace + Studio, Gerrard Hall, Historic Playmakers Theater, and Moeser Auditorium. This position leads the audio department, trains and supervises CPA student staff, supervises set-up and operation of audio systems, and maintains audio equipment. The Audio Department Head may also serve as the front of house engineer for many CPA performances as well as for events hosted by student groups, campus departments, and community groups in our venues. Prior experience working with and leading staff/crews with varied levels of technical knowledge is strongly preferred. This position must demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure the error-free success of highly complex, high profile events. The ability to create and nurture a culture of exceptional customer service to artists, audience members, and venue users and to develop and maintain productive working relationships with artists and crews is essential. This position requires the ability to lift or move heavy objects and to work long hours under potentially stressful conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalency and two years of related production experience. Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor?s degree, preferably in Theater Arts or a related field; strong interpersonal skills as well as effective and diplomatic written and oral communication skills; and resourceful problem-solving skills; demonstrated experience with project management and resource/equipment management; and previous experience managing students and/or working in a university environment. Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: ? Experience operating digital and analogue audio consoles in a live mixing environment ? Thorough knowledge of audio engineering ? Working knowledge of video projection systems as well as Qlab ? General knowledge of theater rigging, carpentry, and lighting ? Ability to work independently and as a team member with diverse collaborators ? Prior staff management and training experience ? Ability to organize workflows and direct a team?s task prioritization
