The University of Rhode Island’s George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor position beginning Fall 2024 in the area of neuroinflammation and Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD). The successful candidate will also have a faculty appointment in one or more of the academic colleges.
The George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience (GARIN) is a research center based at the University of Rhode Island. Established in 2013, GARIN brings together a community of investigators focused on pathological mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease, including Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, and age-related disorders. GARIN faculty research is aimed at elucidating molecular mechanisms of disease, identifying disease biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and lifestyle interventions to help diagnose, treat, and prevent neurodegenerative conditions.
The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the principal public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston and is close to the ocean and major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. The campus is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, RI Boston, MA and New York City.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Bring an active, vibrant, and sustainable independent research program in the broad area of neuroinflammation and ADRD. Seek extramural funding to support a research program from federal agencies and other sources. Publish high-quality primary research articles in peer-reviewed journals. Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in the college of membership and Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program. Provide advising and research mentorship to undergraduate, professional, and graduate students. Engage in service activities in the GARIN, departments, colleges and within the university and scientific community.
Qualifications
Required:

1. Earned doctorate (Ph.D./D.Phil./Sc.D./M.D.) in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
2. Strong evidence of scholarly activity in the area of neuroinflammation and Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD), e.g., publications in peer-reviewed journals; current external funding.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
4. Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.
7. Demonstrated commitment in advancing institutional diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Preferred:

1. Demonstrated potential to bring and lead a research program that will complement existing research in the Ryan Institute.
2. Demonstrated ability for collaboration in the achievement of excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring.
3. Demonstrated track record of external funding in ADRD.
