Assistant or Associate Professor of School Psychology

 This program will prepare professionals in a place-based, culturally-sustaining, scientist-practitioner model with the goal of becoming NASP accredited and accepting the first cohort in fall 2025. This will be Alaska’s first and only school psychology degree program. The Department of Psychology offers bachelor (BA/BS), master (MS in Clinical Psychology and ABA), and APA-accredited doctorate (PhD in Clinical-Community Psychology) degrees. In addition, the Department offers professional certificates in Children’s Mental Health and Applied Behavior Analysis. The Department prepares graduates: (1) for advanced study in the social and health sciences, and (2) to become members of the Alaska behavioral health and education workforce.

The department also maintains the Psychological Services Center, a clinic that provides low cost mental health services to campus and community members. With more than 400 students and 19 faculty members, the UAA Psychology Department is Alaska’s largest center for the scientific study of behavior and mental processes and is pleased to expand training to include school psychology. We seek candidates who are interested in supporting the development and implementation of a new graduate Specialist-Level School Psychology training program, aimed to reflect a place-based, culturally-sustaining, scientific-practitioner training model. The candidate’s area of expertise and research are open with the expectation there is an emphasis on P-12 student populations, school-based educational consultation and mental health service delivery. This proposed program will be Alaska’s first and only school psychology degree program, with multiple opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and community-engagement.

Specific teaching load will depend upon a successful applicant’s expertise and departmental needs. The workload for this position is likely to be 60% teaching (includes both coursework and program development), 20% research, and 20% service to the university, community, and profession. ● Experience in working with P - 12 school settings
● Experience with field or university supervision in school psychology
● College level teaching experience online and on-campus
● Experience and interest in Alaska Native context, Alaska Native peoples, and Alaska communities

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in School Psychology from an accredited program at the time of hire. ABDs will be considered but employment is contingent on conferral of degree by time of hire in August 2024.

Documented experience in working with P - 12 student and family populations.

Documented record of research and publication or demonstrated potential for research and publication.

Eligible to obtain the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential AND/OR obtain a Alaska Special Services - Type C Endorsement School Psychology.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is an in-person position located on the Anchorage campus; remote work is not available for this position.

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package , including tuition waivers for employees and family members, affordable medical, dental and vision coverage, and representation under a Collective Bargaining Unit. The expected start date will be in August 2024. Salary will be based upon applicable academic preparation and experience. Opportunities for summer teaching are available.
