Details | The Department of Education, Culture & Society (ECS) (http://ecs.utah.edu/ ) in the College of Education at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor position with research and teaching expertise in educational theory with an emphasis on issues of gender and sexuality. ECS is a diverse, multi-disciplinary group of scholars committed to the study and pursuit of social justice in education using cutting-edge frameworks that address class, race, ethnicity, culture, language, immigration status, gender and sexuality in educational policy and practice. ECS offers Ph.D., M.Ed., professional and undergraduate program specialties in curriculum theory, cultural studies in education, multilingual/multicultural education (ESL/DLBE), community-engaged pedagogy, and the social foundations of education (anthropology, sociology, history, and philosophy of education). The department also offers undergraduate courses as a part of our commitment to develop culturally and linguistically responsive, socially just educators and community-engaged scholars. ECS is deeply committed to fostering collaboration across campus and across the state’s school districts, community-based organizations, and policy networks, to prepare educational professionals who are successful in diverse educational contexts; and to support distinction in teaching, service, and scholarship. We seek candidates whose interests include but are not limited to: Queer theory/intersections of Queer theories; gender studies; masculinity; sexuality studies. We especially welcome scholars who bring clarity and new ways of thinking about pressing issues related to discourse and decisions relevant to the education of diverse groups of learners. Located in metropolitan Salt Lake City in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, the University of Utah (The “U”) is the state’s flagship Research-1 public institution. Utah public schools and community organizations serve a diverse student body (statewide average: eight percent multilingual learners designated as ELs and twenty-six percent non-white), notably higher in its urban districts.
