Assistant or Associate Professor of Counseling - Tenure-Track

The UAF School of Education's Counseling program is CACREP accredited. Fairbanks is a community that provides access to a wide variety of educational, cultural, and recreational programs and facilities. The local economy is bolstered by the University of Alaska Fairbanks and its proximity to Ft. Wainwright, a large Army post, and Eielson Air Force Base. Fairbanks is located in Interior, or central, Alaska, 358 miles north of Anchorage on the George Parks Highway and 300 miles northwest of the Alaska-Canada border on the Richardson Highway. It lies on the northern bank of the Tanana River, between the Yukon River to the north and the Alaska Range to the south. Several commercial airlines provide service to and from the Fairbanks area, and while there is no train service from the lower 48 states, the Alaska Railroad does run between Anchorage and Fairbanks daily during the summer and on weekends during the winter. It also stops at the entrance of Denali National Park on its way.

Our open position involves teaching digitally-delivered graduate courses in counselor education with the ability to address the training needs of graduate students in our program’s clinical mental health and school counseling tracks. The successful applicant will be able to articulate and demonstrate values aligning with a student-centered institution.  Additionally, this position requires the ability to supervise practicum and internship students. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the ability to develop or expand research and scholarship interests relevant to the context and missions of the School of Education, the Counseling Program, and the University along with the skill-sets necessary for building collaborative, interdisciplinary teams, and acquiring grant funding.  In addition, the successful applicant will have the skills necessary for advising graduate students, serving on graduate student committees, participating in committee work that relates to the Counseling Program,the School of Education, and the University. 

Successful applicants will have:

• knowledge of and commitment to a CACREP-accredited Counseling M.Ed. Program with a Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling tracks;

• potential for excellence in instruction, academic/career advising, supervision, and research; and

• the ability to use technology to deliver synchronous and asynchronous, high-quality learning experiences in a virtual classroom environment with regular and substantive student interaction.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
This position teaches graduate courses in counselor education. In addition, responsibilities include research/scholarship; advising graduate students; providing program, department, and university service; and participating in faculty governance.
Preferred Experience & Education:

• Certified School Counselor or eligible for Alaska school counseling certification is preferred.
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or eligible for Alaska LPC, National Certified Counselor (NCC), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and/or possess other counseling credentials will be considered.
• Experience developing and teaching online courses and/or integrating technology into courses.
• Successful clinical supervision experience.
• Evidence of or potential for scholarly activity.
• Counseling service delivery experience with Indigenous populations.
• Educational experiences emphasizing Indigenous cultures and related pedagogies.
• Specific experience with Alaska Native populations is preferred.
• Record of involvement in professional organizations.

Required Experience & Education:

• Earned doctorate from a Counselor Education Program with an emphasis in clinical mental health and/or school counseling by August 2024
• Experience as a school counselor or clinical mental health provider.
• Record of university teaching experience.
• Counseling service delivery experience with diverse populations.
• Ability to relocate, or already reside in Anchorage or Fairbanks, AK.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position. Salary will be based upon applicable academic preparation and experience complete with a competitive employee benefits package , including tuition waivers for employees and family members, affordable medical, dental and vision coverage, and representation under a Collective Bargaining Unit.
