Position Information
The School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences invites resumes for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in Nutrition and Dietetics. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Department: The Department offers a bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology with concentrations in the following areas: Child Development (online and in-person), Family and Consumer Sciences / Education, Nutrition, Dietetics, and Fashion Merchandising. In fall 2023, the Department will be implementing a BS in Fashion Merchandising and an MS in Human Ecology with tracks in the following areas: Child Development (online and in-person), Family and Consumer Sciences / Education, Nutrition, Dietetics, and Fashion Merchandising. The main department is currently located in the Richard A. Henson Center. The Child & Family Development Center, a lab school that supports the Child Development undergraduate program, provides daycare for children ages six weeks through school age.
Location: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is an 1890 Land-Grant Institution in the University System of Maryland. The campus is located in the town of Princess Anne, 13 miles south of Salisbury. The University is accessible to major metropolitan areas of Baltimore City and Washington, D.C. to Northwest and Philadelphia to the North. All are approximately 2 ½ hours drive. Ocean City and other resort areas on the Atlantic Ocean are within 30 minutes.
Responsibilities
  • Teach professional-level undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition, dietetics, and foods.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research and field experiences.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including grantsmanship and research.
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum development activities for the program, including developing new courses.
  • Serve on departmental, school, and university committees, and participate in other academic functions.
  • Participate in recruitment activities.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Develop and maintain linkages with agencies, businesses, and persons in the surrounding community as part of community service, service learning, and internship activities. 
  • Develop new innovative courses and assist in enhancing the current curriculum.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate (at the time of appointment) from an accredited university in human nutrition and foods, dietetics, or a closely related field.
  • Candidates with an M.S. degree in human nutrition and foods, dietetics, or a closely related field will be considered for a non-tenure track appointment at the Lecturer rank.
  • Registered Dietician and Nutritionist (RDN) is required to be designated director of programs accredited by ACEND.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses related to nutrition and food science.
  • Experience with student advising and mentoring.
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency in using instructional technology for online teaching.
  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Student recruitment.
  • Curriculum development in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Scholarly research and grant writing experience
