The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Leadership, Research and Foundations (LEAD) in the College of Education (COE) . The Department seeks a scholar with content knowledge of general core coursework in education with a specialization in advanced quantitative research methodologies and statistics. The typical time allocation for tenured and tenure-track faculty in the College of Education is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service. The teaching load for this position is five classes per academic year, some of which may be online, hybrid, or at off-campus locations, with the potential for additional teaching opportunities during the summer. Additionally, the faculty member will develop and refine teaching and assessment practices; advise students; contribute to the college accreditation initiatives; and participate in appropriate state, regional, and national meetings to represent UCCS.

The faculty member would be responsible for teaching, research, and service/leadership per the COE Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure Guidelines. Primary teaching and advising responsibilities will be in MA programs in Leadership and the PhD program in Educational Leadership, Research, and Policy, and include advanced educational research and statistics, policy analysis, organizational behavior and leadership, and/or economics of education. In research, the faculty member will be expected to contribute to the research profile of the department through publications and the pursuit of grants and other external sponsored program activities. Service and leadership responsibilities will be to the profession and scholarly discipline and will begin at the Department and College and over time expand to the University and System. 

Applicants must show evidence of expertise in key academic areas in teaching, as well as demonstrate the capability of serving and chairing PhD dissertation committees. Applicants must also have the ability to establish a strong record of scholarly activities with the ability to secure external funding that would enhance the department’s national reputation. Experience engaging in collaborative leadership and partnerships with school districts, higher education institutions, education agencies, and/or the professional and scholarly discipline are required. 

Areas of Specialization

Areas of specialization are open, but preference will be given to applicants whose research is focused on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, with expertise in (1) policy analysis research and/or (2) organizational behavior and leadership. 

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Assistant Professor:  $62,000 - $69,000
Associate Professor: $73,000 - $78,000

Tentative Search Timeline:

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Earned doctorate in education or a related field (e.g., economics, political science, sociology) from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  • 2 years of experience in advanced quantitative research and statistics with documented expertise in at least two of the following areas: large-scale assessment/data analysis, ordinary least squares or logistic regression, multilevel modeling, or panel /time series analyses 

To be considered at the associate professor level, preferred applicants should show evidence of (1) tenure at a regionally accredited higher education institution; (2) excellence in teaching and scholarly activities; (3) experience chairing and serving on PhD dissertation committees; (4) a history of securing internal and external funding; (5) expertise in key academic area(s) that would enhance the department’s national reputation; (6) demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative leadership and partnerships with the College of Education’s P-20 constituencies; and (7) demonstrated capacity or interest in departmental leadership.     

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move.  Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. Talking and hearing within normal range.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
