Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a faculty position in Educational Technology at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with tenure.

Iowa State University and the School of Education are committed to building on a strong history of national leadership in the area of technology in teacher education. We seek a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague who brings strong research and teaching experience in educational technology and who will enhance the spirit of collaboration that already exists among the educational technology and SOE faculty. We seek a colleague who will engage in scholarly research, serve on master’s and doctoral committees, teach graduate and undergraduate courses in areas of scholarly expertise, and participate in the intellectual and service culture of the School of Education and Iowa State University. We are particularly interested in scholars who have a line of inquiry focused on one or more of the following: (a) integrating technology within formal/informal STEM settings; (b) instructional design, development and evaluation applied to PK-20 educational settings; (c) using emerging technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence (AI)) in education; (d) theoretical foundations of using educational technology; or (e) utilizing technology to transform learning in teacher education/preparation and/or P-12 schools.

The successful candidate will join a collegial team of leading educational technology educators and researchers in the Center for Technology in Learning and Teaching (CTLT) (http://www.ctlt.iastate.edu ). CTLT faculty actively engage in research, teaching, and outreach activities that involve university-wide collaborations, area P-12 schools and education agencies, the Iowa Department of Education, and a range of national and international partners.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • For rank of Assistant Professor, the successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate degree in educational technology, instructional technology, learning sciences, or a closely related curriculum area.

  • For rank of Associate Professor, the successful candidate must meet university standards for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure, including excellence in scholarship that establishes the individual as a significant contributor to the field or profession, evidence of effective teaching, and evidence of institutional service.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of professional service and/or outreach in the area of educational technology

  • Demonstrated expertise teaching in P-12 schools

  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and teaching online courses

  • Demonstrated expertise in working with pre-service and/or in-service teachers

  • Evidence of potential to develop an active research agenda, establish a strong publication record, and secure external funding commensurate with rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenured) at Iowa State University

  • Demonstrated successful teaching at the post-secondary level

  • Demonstrated expertise in working in interdisciplinary research teams
