Position Information
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is currently accepting applications for a nine month, full-time, tenure track position in Child and Family Development that is available in August 2023. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Department: The Department offers a bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology with concentrations in the following areas: Child Development, Family and Consumer Sciences, Nutrition, Dietetics, and Fashion Merchandising. The department participates in the Agricultural Sciences MS degree program with an emphasis in Food and Nutrition. The main department is currently located in the Richard A. Henson Center. The Child & Family Development Center, a lab school that supports the Child Development undergraduate program, provides daycare for children ages six weeks through school age.
Location: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is an 1890 Land-Grant Institution in the University System of Maryland. The campus is located in the town of Princess Anne, 13 miles south of Salisbury. The University is accessible to major metropolitan areas of Baltimore City and Washington, D.C to Northwest and Philadelphia to the North. All are approximately 2-½ hour’s drive. Ocean City and other resort areas on the Atlantic Ocean are within 30 minutes.
Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate child and family development courses.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research and field experiences
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum development activities for the program, including developing new courses.
  • Seek, develop and maintain positive relations with related community agencies, child and family development centers, and other community outreach organizations.
  • Serve on departmental and University committee
  • Conduct research
  • Seek external funds to support program activities
  • Maintain office hours
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Department Chair

Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate is required. A doctorate in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Family Studies, or a related area is preferred. One graduate degree must be in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Family Studies, or a related area.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Proficiency in the use of instructional technology for online teaching.

  • Student recruitment
  • Curriculum development in Child Development / Early Childhood Education
  • Collaborative work with school practitioners
  • Scholarly research and grant writing experience
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist and/or Family Life Educator is desirable.
