Pay Grade/Pay Range:  Minimum: $48,600 - Midpoint: $60,800 (Salaried E7)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm


Job Summary: The Assistant Manager of Grounds manages the scheduling and assigning work for Laborers, Groundskeepers, Team leaders, Truckdrivers, and Equipment Operators. Provides customer service by interacting with customers to clarify work orders, set work schedules, and follow up during and at completion of work. Conducts on-site inspections for work in progress and completed work projects.


Required Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of groundskeeping experience; OR Associates degree and six (6) years of groundskeeping experience; OR Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of groundskeeping experience.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must successfully complete study program in landscape operations within one (1) year of hire date. This position will be required to work some special events including all home football game weekends.

Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and plans. Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products and enterprise management systems to schedule personnel and inventory, purchase, communicate, and report. Ability to perform inspections.


Preferred Qualifications: Certification in horticulture. Ornamental and Turf Pesticide Applicator - Custodial.

Fluency in Spanish.
