Job Summary: The Assistant Manager is responsible for recommending employment decisions and for scheduling and assigning work for Building Maintenance staff assigned to his or her work group; scheduling and delivering training; and inspecting work in progress and at completion. Provides customer service by establishing work schedules and assuring that work is completed in a satisfactory and timely manner. Coordinates with other Assistant Managers and work groups to provide quality customer service. Must drive from site to site.


Required Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Business Management, or a related field with at least two (2) years paid work experience managing a building maintenance operation. The following combinations of education and experience will also be accepted: 1.) A bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with at least three (3) years paid work experience managing a building maintenance operation; 2,) An associate's degree in business or a related technical field with at least four (4) years paid work experience in building maintenance and at least two (2) years of functional supervision to include coordinating, scheduling and inspecting work assignments. 3.) A high school diploma and at least six (6) years paid work experience in building maintenance and at least two (2) years of functional supervision to include coordinating, scheduling and inspecting work assignments. Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and plans. Must be able to estimate cost and time for projects. Must be able to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials and supplies of the job. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Preferred Qualifications: A current Alabama contractor's license in a relevant trade
