Essential Job Duties
The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a pivotal role in executing semi-skilled tasks across a spectrum of complex and highly skilled trades within the maintenance and repair framework of the Centennial Campus service zone. This includes occasional engagement within trades such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. This role will contribute significantly to the efficient upkeep and functionality of the campus infrastructure.
  • Develop a proficient understanding of routine repairs across various trades including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, steam, and fume hood.
  • Provide technical assistance by diagnosing and troubleshooting simple facilities maintenance issues, and determining their root causes.
  • Demonstrate adherence to proper procedures for isolating and locking out systems under responsibility.
  • Take accurate readings on boilers and chillers, promptly noting and reporting any discrepancies detected.
  • Maintain meticulous records pertaining to all equipment within the assigned area.
  • Monitor and adjust chemical levels as assigned.
  • Undergo cross-training in all building equipment operations systems.

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
 
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 pounds occasionally.
  • This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of mechanical trades/functions.

Required License or Certification
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • NC Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.
