Required Education:

  • Associate’s degree or 60 plus hours of college hours in a related discipline such as Science or Engineering or fields such as Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering Technology


Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid State of Texas Driver license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire. Failure to obtain a valid TDL May result in termination
 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of environmental safety and health rules, regulations, and standards
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Ability to withstand moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dust dirt, fumes, smoke, loud noises and chemical substances
  • May require night and/or weekend hours and may require occasional travel

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Degree in a related discipline such as science or engineering
  • Some work experience, preferably working around radioactive materials and radiation producing devices

Preferred Other Factors:

  • Ability to lift or move heavy objects

Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Report Management - Generate, distribute, and collect radiological program reports. This will include keeping compliance metrics, following up with non-responsive permit holders, following-up on any permit holder requests or needed database updates, and track two-year storage plan program. Coordinate with radiological waste team as necessary.
  • Radiological Safety Inspections - Assist EHS inspection team in performing the rad-safety inspections in labs using radioactive materials. This duty will require operating a University vehicle to locations on the College Station campus and remote locations. Provide expertise to ensure inspections are performed to RSO standards. Assist with all follow-up activities for radiological lab inspections. Schedule and perform remote-site RAM inspections
  • Dosimetry - Assist with distribution and pickup personnel and area monitor dosimetry badges to main campus and Cyclotron.
  • Rad Lab Setup/Closeout - Coordinates all radiological lab setups and closeouts including: communicating with permit holders and staff, scheduling surveys, application and removal of signage, waste and other radiological equipment pickup coordination, database and paperwork management, and detector archive as necessary.
  • Surveys and Inventory - Assists with performing radiation and/or contamination surveys and inventory verification at main campus and Cyclotron as needed. Without supervision, perform surveys and response checks, load LSC, paperwork and report management. Assist with leak checks on sources as needed.
  • Radioactive Material Handling - Assists with receipt and delivery to lab of radioactive materials for the campus as needed. This duty will require operating a University vehicle to locations on the College Station campus and remote locations. Tasks include: cover lab, perform MDA calculations, perform package check-in procedure, and paperwork management.
  • Emergency Response - Under supervision, responds to radiological incidents, as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
