The Assistant Greens Superintendent supervises and participates in the management, maintenance, and improvement of the University of Idaho Golf Course. The University of Idaho Golf Course is an integrated part of Auxiliary Service which focuses on providing quality products and services to university students, faculty and the greater community.
Position Overview
This position supervises and participates in the management, maintenance and improvement of the golf course.
Duties may include:
  • Assist with planning, scheduling and supervising golf course maintenance
  • Train seasonal employees
  • Inspect and record inventories of fertilizers, chemicals, and other supplies
  • Installation and operation of irrigations systems
  • Preform equipment maintenance
  • Course set up
  • Operate equipment used to maintain a golf course
  • Maintain personal and golf course compliance with regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Golf course or green industry supervisory experience or turfgrass management education equivalent to two years

Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Other
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university vehicles
  • Possess or have the abilityobtain within 90 days of hire an Idaho professional (Pesticide) Applicators License including the categories of Law and Safety, Ornamental Herbicide, and Ornamental Insecticide/Fungicide
  • Possess membership in or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire membership in the Inland Empire Golf Course Superintendents Association (IEGCSA) and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA)
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, early mornings and evenings based upon seasonal requirements including but not limited to weather, tournaments, and other scheduled activities

Additional Preferred
Experience in/with:
  • Working and solving problems with little or no precedence in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Operating and maintaining equipment, hand and power tools associated with golf course and/or landscape maintenance
  • Evaluating the safety and mechanical integrity of golf course/landscape equipment
  • Irrigation and drainage systems and their maintenance
  • Mixing, using and correctly applying chemicals and fertilizers
  • Making decisions regarding daily golf course maintenance
  • Communicating with employees and golfing clientele
  • Horticulture and professional golf course maintenance and related safety practices
  • Turf grass and soil types
  • Sprinkler system layout and design
  • Computer applications
  • Leading staff, making decisions and solving problems during the absence of a supervisor
  • Continuing training to stay current with changing trends in golf course maintenance
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 pounds in a routine, repetitive manner as needed
  • Ability to work with and on ladders
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, twist, dig, climb and walk on a routine basis throughout the day
